Reclamation for forestry

The research team "Reclamation for Forestry" deals with the development of forest and wood ecosystems on waste dump and storage sites and other degraded soils. Research is done on site dynamics, growth and vitality of different tree species, as well as aspects of nature conservation. Main topics are new maintenance technologies and the redevelopment of unstable coniferous forests into near-natural broad-leaf mixed woods.
In order to assess effects of climate change on the forests, growth dynamics of tree species in extreme climatic situations are analyzed. From this, recommendations for a site-related afforestation and sustainable forest management for the near future are derived.
